I specialise in AP English Literature, with particular interest in poetry, drama, and the open-ended essay. My degree is in literature, and for the past nine years I have tutored students who want to move beyond plot summary and write with more precision about form, tone, and meaning. I enjoy close reading and usually teach it quite explicitly, because many capable students have ideas but are not yet sure how to turn those ideas into a strong literary argument.

I teach AP English Literature and genuinely like the bit most students dread, which is unpacking a poem without making it sound like guesswork. I’ve got a literature background and have spent years helping students with passage analysis, Hamlet, and the open question. Lessons are usually a mix of discussion and writing. We talk through the text properly, then make sure the essay still works when the clock is against you.

My AP English Literature lessons focus on interpretation, essay structure, and the use of textual evidence with real accuracy. I studied comparative literature and later completed postgraduate work in English literature, which still shapes how I teach prose and drama. Students often come to me when their essays are thoughtful but too broad. Much of my job is helping them narrow an idea, stay close to the text, and write something that can hold up under exam marking.
